Coming to France?

Come spend one spectacular week with me in Périgord!

How does it work?

Together, we design with your specific interests and preferences in mind, a fully customized guided week to knock your socks off!  Once you have contacted me and expressed interest, we meet over the telephone so I know exactly what to offer you for your special week.

Are you more interested in history? or in culinary arts? or maybe in outdoor activities?  Maybe you’d love a mix of it all?  There is so much to see and do in our region, it will be sometimes difficult to choose!  I then send you a suggested schedule for your approval.

What to do - What to see (partial option list only)

There are several hundred options for you to choose from, so I am listing here the best ones, so you have an idea of what is possible.  Once we are in the design phase of your special week, I may possibly propose additional options.

Périgord was one of the main battlegrounds of Hundred Years' War between the French and English in the 14th and 15th centuries. It is also the land of medieval and Renaissance castles like Puymartin, Losse, Hautefort and Beynac situated mainly along the Dordogne and Vézère rivers. Other major castles include Jumilhac-le-Grand, Fénelon, Biron, Bourdeilles, Castelnaud, Puyguilhem and Rouffiac.

Known as the 'cradle of mankind' - one of UNESCO's World Heritage locations, the Vézère valley contains 147 prehistoric sites dating from the Palaeolithic era and 25 decorated caves, of which the most famous  is the painted cave of Lascaux, whose depictions of aurochs, horses, deer and other animals (but not of humans) date back some 17,000 years.

If you like gardens, your senses will be awed by several amazing sites, such as the hanging gargens of Marqueyssac, the Limeuil panoramic gardens, the Gardens of the Imagination designed by American landscape artist Kathryn Gustafson, or the water gardens of Carsac.

Medieval Villages

Outdoors Activities

Food Arts

You will enjoy staying in Sarlat, with its medieval center, said to have the largest concentration of classified historic buildings in the world.  Outside of Sarlat, are many small medieval villages such as Beynac, Castelnaud, Dôme, and many others, all full of charm and beauty.

Many outdoors activities are available in the area - horseback riding, canoe/kayak-ing, stand-up paddling, swimming, VTT, ropes courses, biking, hot-air balloon rides, hiking, and more! My personal favorite is to canoe down the Dordogne river and swim in the cool, clear and clean water.

The Périgord region is one of the top gastronomic regions of France. Duck or goose foie gras or confit, and fragrant truffles are the favorites.  You will enjoy local restaurants for some of your meals,  and we will pick up some fresh ingredients at one of the local farmers markets and prepare meals together in my kitchen, if learning French cooking is your thing.
